POSITION: Intern

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF INTERNSHIP:
mYo's NRCS work opportunities for bilingual interns combine indoor and outdoor work based on selected students' diverse career goals. mYo's bilingual interns will be assigned to a supervisor, who, in most cases, will be a conservationist. USDA-NRCS field offices (Louisiana, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and Puerto Rico) select candidates that meet their needs and interests. Students will be working closely and under the supervision of NRCS scientists, from wildlife biologists to GIS specialists, who develop the tools to implement conservation rooted in science and based on cutting-edge technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work under the supervision of a Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) conservationist in an NRCS office where the intern will have the opportunity to focus on implementing NRCS programs, including but not limited to Environmental Improvement programs, Conservation Technical Assistance programs, Stewardship programs, and more.

  • Observe and participate in the aforementioned programs and services as well as interact and participate in training.

  • Participate and contribute to the Cultivar Learning Network (CLN) via our online learning platform.

  • Share a presentation at the end of the internship with the mYo team and their cohort peers.

TIME COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:

  • Complete 40 hours per week, for 6 weeks

  • Internship payment is $15 per hour

  • Working period: Summer (flexible) May – July

  • Housing and travel stipends provided

TRAINING AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT RESULTS OF BILINGUAL INTERNSHIP:
As an NRCS employee, the interns' work will support NRCS's conservation mission. NRCS offices supporting this program are eager to develop strong, long-term, and, in many cases, permanent relationships between the NRCS staff, the Hispanic farmers, and the new, bilingual agricultural professionals. Employee development, training, and promotion are essential for these state offices and leaders to achieve NRCS's critical mission.
