About the event

This two-part webinar will delve into actions that producers are taking to address climate change and conserve forestland. The first panel will be led by Victus Puerto Rico, while mYo Chief Agronomist Heriberto Martínez-Méndez will facilitate the second panel.

  • Addressing Climate Change Smartly: A Conversation with Hispanic Agricultural Producers on Breadfruit Trees, Silvopastoral Systems, and Carbon Markets: This panel aims to highlight the innovative work of various Hispanic producers in Puerto Rico and Florida through the Hispanic Climate-Smart Commodities Initiative, led by Victus Puerto Rico. The discussion will focus on the pressing issue of climate change, the ecosystem benefits provided by silvopastoral systems with breadfruit trees, and the opportunities these new agricultural practices offer, both economically and philosophically.

  • Conservation and Community-Building: Perspectives from Hispanic Agricultural Producers in Puerto Rico: In the second panel, participants will have the opportunity to learn from farmers in Puerto Rico who are working in harmony with nature and improving food security on the island while also conserving forests. Additionally, each of the panelists is a participant in mYo’s Hispanic Forest Landowners Outreach Program!
